Data backup is essential to mitigate against the risk of ransomware, user mistakes, malicious behavior, and sync or configuration errors, all of which threaten productivity and business continuity.
Microsoft’s Services Agreement states: “We recommend you regularly back up your content and data . . . using third-party apps and services.” While Microsoft are responsible for the availability and integrity of their systems, users of their systems are responsible for the backup of the data.
Microsoft 365 provides simple levels of data recovery, similar to your recycle bin. But this does not provide long term recovery so if your data was deleted a while ago, it would be lost forever.
